Selena Gomez Calls Discussion About Money 'Distasteful'

She said to 'Entertainment Tonight': "I'm very grateful. I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money. But I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products. They're the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I'm really, really honored and just happy."

Selena Gomez, the singer-actress who made it to the billionaires list because of her cosmetics company, says she found it "distasteful" to discuss money.

She said to 'Entertainment Tonight': "I'm very grateful. I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money. But I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products. They're the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I'm really, really honored and just happy."

Born in Grand Prairie, Texas, Gomez was raised by a single mother in what she has described as a really rough neighborhood. According to femalefirst.co.uk, she once recalled running out of money for basic amenities for having a really rough time with her mom struggling to make ends meet.

Then she said, "I can remember about seven times our car got stuck on the highway because we'd run out of money to buy gas. Mom gave up everything for me and had three jobs. I always recalled being reminded that people had less than we did, and we didn't have much.".

But I think we did because my mom was always doing a hundred million things just to make me happy, and we volunteered at soup kitchens on Thanksgiving.

After beginning work as a background actress on the children's television series "Barney and Friends" in the early 2000s, Gomez went on to guest-star in a few episodes of the television series "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and a couple of episodes of "Hannah Montana," in which Miley Cyrus starred, before starring in her own television series in the form of "Wizards of Waverly Place" in 2007.

For that, she is estimated to have earned $30,000 per episode over four seasons and became one of the most paid child stars in the process. The following years since the conclusion of the series saw her net worth balloon into tens of millions, who has also launched a very successful career as a pop artist with multiple sold-out tours.

According to Bloomberg, Gomez is actually worth an eye-watering $1.3 billion, which has included the singer for the first time in Billionaires Index.
