Selena Gomez and Fiancé Benny Blanco Reveal the Matchmaker Behind Their Romance

Actress and singer Selena Gomez announced that her mother had arranged her introduction to fiancé Benny Blanco. The two had their initial encounter at a meeting arranged by Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, and she had also initiated their relationship.

Selena said she was 16 or 17  when she first met Blanco, whom she got engaged to in December 2024.

As per People, Selena's mom, Mandy Teefey, set up her daughter and Benny Blanco for a casual get-together in hopes of learning about music. What was initially thought to be a laid-back encounter eventually created their chemistry and thus began their romance.

Mandy Teefey, and Selena’s stepfather, Brian Teefey, helped manage Selena’s career for eight years. During those years, Mandy, 48, helped nurture her daughter’s rise to fame, particularly through her successful run on the Disney Channel.

"When she started putting out music, I was so into it. I feel like she was the original sad girl”, Benny Blanco said of Gomez being with Disney Records at the time. “Everyone was like (beatboxes) and she was like, (sings) ‘I just want to look good for you’, (Laughs) I was drawn to it”.

Selena Gomez then went on to talk about how her feelings for Benny Blanco slowly grew while working on a song together. She said that spending so much time working on music together bonded them, and it was during this time of creativity that she started realizing that her feelings were deepening for him.

"It was really simple", the 'Emilia Perez' star said. "We got in the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that's how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me".
