Academy Award winner Scarlett Johansson accepts that by avoiding having pictures with fans while off-duty, she usually hurts others' feelings.
40-year-old actress prefers being alone during her personal life and feels highly protective about it. She also accepts that she does value her fans, yet does not wish to be caught out on-camera outside work as she loves getting lost in thoughts, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Talking to InStyle magazine, the Black Widow star clarified, "It really offends a lot of people. It doesn't mean I'm not grateful, of course, that people are fans or glad to see me. But I always tell people: 'I'm not working.' I don't want to be associated with being in this time and place with you. I'm doing my own thing."
Johansson also highlighted the fact that she hates being self-conscious and prefers to tune out from public opinion. "I like to be in my own thoughts that are nothing to do with what people think of me. I don't like being self-conscious," she continued.
The Hollywood actress also shared her sympathy for pop star Chappell Roan, who opened up about living with fame.
"As for the rest of the world, I fell in love with her this summer. She's very candid about how difficult it has been to cope with fame. It's like heart-throbs. That's tough. When I was younger, I dated actors who were heart-throbs. That is, to me, frightening. I don't possess that level. Fan crush-dom can be extremely tough," Johansson told.
Her comments come after her recent introspection on reaching 40 years old in November, which she had termed an empowering age. While appearing on LIVE with Kelly and Mark, she highlighted how reaching the age has provided her with a new era of freedom.
"So far, it's great. You also don't care what anybody thinks, which is so liberating. It's so liberating!" she said.
