Salma Hayek is embracing her age and acknowledging how the changing attitude of Hollywood toward middle-aged women has enabled her to discover new horizons as a performer.
The 58-year-old actress, who was once best known as "the sexy girl," looked back on her career in a recent interview with Marie Claire magazine. "There was a time when I was the sexy girl, but thank God age came and gave me the ability to expand to other territories. Although I'm still sexy and I embrace it," she said.
Breaking the Stereotype of Women in Hollywood
Hayek is keen on seeing that women are not discarded as they age, stressing that their value does not decrease with time. "Another mission that I have is to remind everybody that women are not disposable after a certain age in any department. We should fight that with all we've got," she claimed, according to FemaleFirst.co.uk.
Although she credits Hollywood for progress in identifying the talent of older women, Hayek says the industry has a long way to go—particularly in providing female actresses proper credit for the success of a film. "The credit goes to the man. The girl is just the girl," she said, adding, "I do have an audience, and they go see me. But I've never gotten credit for the audience I bring into the cinema.
The Secret to Her Ageless Radiance
Hayek has surprised fans over the years with her glowing looks, frequently posting gorgeous bikini photos on Instagram. She attributes her youthful radiance to meditation instead of intense exercise.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2023, she shared, "People say it's exercising. I think it's meditation. You have to find your way. For me, exercising is difficult. It's really, really hard to have the discipline to do it. But meditation is a walk in the park, because it's my own form of it. You sit in a moment with yourself, that's already meditation."
