'2018 - Everyone is a Hero' became the fourth Malayalam film to be chosen as India's official entry for the Oscars, following 'Guru' in 1997, 'Adaminte Makan Abu' in 2011, and the acclaimed 'Jallikattu' in 2019. However, none of these films received nominations.

The Academy also unveiled the shortlists in other categories, with the Margot Robbie-starrer 'Barbie' receiving the most mentions, including nods for sound, original song, and original score. The official nominees for the 96th Oscars will be announced on January 23, 2023.
