Hollywood icon Nicole Kidman recently shared her knowledge about keeping a happy marriage while focusing on the necessity of compromise.
Married to the singer, Keith Urban, in the year 2006, Kidman spilled her emotions to Victoria Beckham about Marriage for Vogue Australia. She explained that the magic or formula for a successful marriage is about putting two people's separate identities into one. "The best lesson I ever had was from a friend who said, 'It's not about the two people, it's that one plus one equals three.' So it's not about what he does and what I do. It's about what we create together, and that's what the entity is, she said.
Married to actor Tom Cruise in her past, Kidman confessed that the secret behind most successful relationships is not daydreaming about it but just constantly compromising. "Compromise is key, and it's a constant cycle of trial and error," she said. "Sometimes things are out of balance, but they will eventually balance. We don't brag about it; it's part of the journey.
Kidman also said that she does not pretend she has all the answers when it comes to marriage. "People often ask for my advice about relationships, but I don't have any universal solutions. Each couple forges its own path and I'm just walking mine," she added.
Speaking of her marriage to Urban, Kidman called him a source of grounding through all the ups and downs of the show-business world. "He provides stability in a world that can be quite unpredictable. We cherish our daily routine of walking hand in hand each morning," she said.
