Academy Award-winning actress Nicole Kidman will star in and executive produce an upcoming television series based on Eliza Jane Brazier's novel Girls and Their Horses.
The novel, against the backdrop of Rancho Santa Fe, a wealthy California enclave, revolves around the Parker family, who are newly wealthy. As their daughters plunge into the cutthroat life of high-level horseback riding, a dark combination of lies and deceptions unfolds—eventually leading to a mysterious death that convulses the town.
According to People.com, Kidman, 57, will play the role of matriarch of the Parker family.
The show, which is in the development stages, is in production with Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios and will be available to stream on Prime Video, reports Variety. Jenna Lamia is on board as both showrunner and executive producer.
Lamia has extensive experience at bringing literature to the screen. Her most recent adaptation was Elin Hilderbrand's The Perfect Couple for Netflix in 2024, a thriller series that also featured Kidman.
Kidman is no stranger to critically acclaimed book adaptations. Her past performances in adaptations such as Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers received universal acclaim and cemented her position in the genre further.
Girls and Their Horses was chosen as a book club pick for 2023 by Jenna Bush Hager's "Read with Jenna" book club.
Casting for the other roles has not yet been announced, as the project is still in its early stages.
Kidman's career includes a wide range of genres on screen and television. Since the late 1990s, she has been one of the highest-paid actresses in the world.
Her remarkable list of awards includes an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmys, a BAFTA, and six Golden Globes.
The Australian star started off with Bush Christmas and BMX Bandits, then gained prominence with her work in Dead Calm and the Bangkok Hilton miniseries.
She continued to star in box office successes such as Days of Thunder, then went on to star in Far and Away, To Die For, Batman Forever, Practical Magic, Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge!, and The Hours. She has also starred in The Others, Cold Mountain, The Golden Compass, Australia, and Paddington.
