On Tuesday, Neha Dhupia acknowledged the pivotal role that OTT platforms have played in sustaining her acting career, stating that without these opportunities, she might have been "unemployed" as an actor. The 43-year-old actress, known for her roles in films like Singh Is Kinng, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, and Phas Gaye Re Obama, made her digital debut in 2016 with the podcast #NoFilterNeha and later starred in Karan Johar’s segment of the Netflix anthology Lust Stories.
Dhupia shared her perspective during a panel discussion at the 'Champions of Change' conclave, where she reflected on her career trajectory and the challenges she faced. Having taken a two to three-year break for personal commitments, including raising children, Dhupia expressed her realization of the difficulty of becoming a producer within the industry.
The actress credited OTT platforms for offering her meaningful roles and opportunities that kept her engaged and fulfilled. Dhupia emphasized the fear that creative individuals, including actors and producers, often experience—fear of losing the audience's interest. She highlighted the power of OTT platforms in mitigating this fear by allowing audiences to pause and resume content, contributing to the overall growth of the industry.
Despite her love for cinema, Dhupia noted that OTT shows have provided a consistent platform for her, and the ability to produce great content is crucial for retaining and expanding the audience base. Her latest feature film, A Thursday (2022), had a direct-to-digital release on Disney Plus Hotstar.
