When she's not under the constant watch of the paparazzi, reality TV star Kim Kardashian is focused on advocating for a more inclusive society.
Recently, Kim visited the Department of Justice in Washington, DC, where she met with pardon attorney Elizabeth Oyer. Her mission was to discuss clemency for prisoners who have demonstrated rehabilitation and are ready to reintegrate into society.
Kim shared photos of her visit on Instagram, writing, "Last week I had the opportunity to go visit the Department of Justice in Washington DC to meet with our United States pardon attorney Elizabeth Oyer."
She continued, noting their conversation about individuals who have taken responsibility for their actions, worked diligently to transform their lives, and are now prepared to reunite with their families. "Starting this week, I will be highlighting some of their important cases in my stories. I hope President Biden takes the opportunity to make clemency a significant part of his legacy before he leaves office. #ClemencyNow," she added.
Kim Kardashian has been an active advocate for prison reform, notably working to secure clemency for Chris Young and Alice Marie Johnson. Johnson, who received a life sentence for a first-time drug offense related to a major cocaine operation in Tennessee, had her sentence commuted by President Donald Trump in June 2018.
More recently, the star of 'The Kardashians' expressed her admiration for singer David Jassy, who was formerly incarcerated. She re-shared a post from David on her Instagram Story, commenting, "David Jassy also spent 15 years inside San Quentin prison where I got to meet him and spend time with him learning about his music program and ear hustle podcast, proud he is home and making music."
Kardashian's advocacy comes at a critical time as the U.S. gears up for the upcoming elections.
