The recently released sci-fi blockbuster 'Kalki 2898 AD' has been doing stupendously well and is topping many charts at the international box office. The Indian net collection just for the single film stands at the big-inches figure of Rs 392.45 crore. The worldwide gross earnings for this movie have been raised to Rs 700 crore in just a week.
While 'Kalki 2898 AD' stands at third, behind 'RRR' and 'K.G.F: Chapter 2', this has crossed the previous record holder, 'Jawan', which had attained the film's status of Rs 600 crore during the first week. However, internationally, the movie has fared well due to the Telugu-speaking diaspora.
After a stellar first week of Rs 95.3 crore from all-India releases on June 27, it left hardly any scope for revenues to taper off as the film, as expected, had 76 percent drop on Day 7, finally netting Rs 22.5 crore. Importantly, the Telugu-speaking states contributed handsomely to early revenue, reflecting the importance of the film from a regional perspective.
On Day 7—according to industry tracker Sacnilk—the film has garnered Rs 8.75 crore from the people of Telugu states and Rs 11.3 crore from the Hindi belts.
Currently, 'Kalki 2898 AD' sees 18.32 percent occupancy in the mornings for its 3D shows in Telugu and 13.80 percent in Hindi. The numbers only increase during night shows as it has 43.14 percent going in and 34.69 percent respectively.
The film, which had a star-studded cast bound to sizzle—Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and, of course, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone— also created media hype because of the cameo appearance of bigwig stars across different regional industries in India.
