Juno star comes out as transgender, introduces himself as Elliot

Formerly known as Ellen Page, the Oscar-nominated star of Juno star took to Twitter on Tuesday to come out as transgender and introduced himself as Elliot Page. 
“Hi friends I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” said the Hollywood actor in a note shared on Twitter and also spoke about the possible backlash that may ensue over the revelation. 

“I ask for patience, my joy is real but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I am scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the “jokes” and of violence.

However, the announcement was embraced with support from people including congratulatory messages from his Hollywood colleagues. 

“Congratulation, Elliot, in committing to the full expression of your self and being so open and candid about it. You have made this world a more tolerant and loving place with your commitment,  courage, and vulnerability.  We are lucky to have public figures like you,” replied Mark Ruffalo to Elliot’s tweet.

“So proud of and inspired by you, Friend,” tweeted comedian Sarah Silverman in response including many others who called Elliot brave and inspiring.
