Actor Jonathan Majors is facing accusations of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, in an alleged attempt to hide infidelity and exert control. The trial commenced on December 4 at Manhattan Criminal Court in New York.
As the proceedings began, the judge dismissed four of the seven counts after an agreement between the prosecution and the defense. Majors, known for his role in 'Creed,' is facing charges of assault with intent to cause physical injury, assault recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment, and harassment, all of which he has denied.
According to prosecutor Michael Perez, the alleged assault occurred during a ride home when Majors is said to have slapped Jabbari and later grabbed her hand, throwing her back into the vehicle when she attempted to exit. The altercation reportedly stemmed from Jabbari discovering a text from another woman expressing romantic feelings.
Perez argued that Majors resorted to violence to conceal his infidelity, stating in his opening statement, "The defendant over the course of [his] relationship with Grace Jabbari used a cruel and manipulative pattern of psychological and physical abuse that culminated in the tragic end of their relationship."
In response, Majors' lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, labeled the allegations as "false" and portrayed Jabbari as the aggressor in their relationship. Chaudhry suggested that Jabbari fabricated the claims in a form of "revenge" after discovering the text from another woman.
Majors faces six counts of assault in the third degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree, and one count of harassment in the second degree.
