In a shocking turn of events that left everyone from the fans to the film fraternity speechless, Sunita Ahuja, wife of veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, has reportedly filed for divorce at the Bandra Family Court. The news comes after she appeared in an emotional vlog recently, in which she spoke openly about long-standing rumors surrounding her marriage.
According to a report by Hauterrfly, Sunita has filed for dissolution of her 38-year-long marriage under Section 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, on grounds of adultery, cruelty, and desertion. The court purportedly issued a summons to Govinda on May 25. Yet, the actor has reportedly not been present in person for any hearings, which resulted in issuing a show-cause notice. Sunita, meanwhile, has been appearing for the hearings and the court-mandated counselling sessions regularly since June 2025, with her regularity noted in the proceedings.
The speculation around the couple’s relationship intensified after Sunita’s vlog, in which she visited Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Temple. During her interaction with a priest, she grew emotional and broke into tears, explaining the deep personal connection she feels with the temple. Sunita said, “When I met Govinda, I prayed to the Goddess that I should get married to him and have a good life. The Goddess fulfilled all my wishes, she even blessed me with two children. But not every truth in life is easy; there are always ups and downs. Still, I have so much faith in the Goddess that whatever I am witnessing today, I know that whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali is there. It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman. I love all the three forms of the Goddess deeply. Whatever the situation may be, anyone who tries to break my family, Maa will not forgive them.”
In February 2025, Govinda's representatives admitted that Sunita had filed for divorce close to six months ago. They, however, asserted the issue was settled, stating the couple had patched up things since then. Contrarily, Sunita's team had earlier dismissed news of any divorce, requesting the media to confirm news with her directly before issuing.
Speculation about the breakup has also cited Govinda's claimed intimacy with a 30-year-old Marathi actress as one of the reasons behind the split. Even with these rumors, Lalit Bindal, a close family friend of the Ahujas, denied such speculation. In an interview with News18, he claimed that the couple is "going strong" and will always be together.
