Fantastic Beasts 3's new Grindelwald officially confirmed

In response to losing his libel case, Johnny Depp had to resign from the franchise while the movie's production was underway.

After the unexpected exit of Johnny Depp from the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Mads Mikkelsen has been roped in to replace him. In response to losing his libel case, Johnny Depp had to resign from the franchise while the movie's production was underway.

Warner Bros had to quickly find another actor to play the role of Gellert Grindelwald and Mads Mikkelsen's name was being speculated. And now the studio finally confirmed the danish actor's name as the replacement.

Mads has played key roles earlier in franchises including his villainous roles in Casino Royale, Doctor Strange and the Hannibal series. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently filming just outside of London ahead of its release date on July 15, 2022. 

On another note, a high court judge rejected Johnny Depp's appeal against his claim that a newspaper had committed libel when it called him a "wife-beater" making things worse for the actor.
