Actress Sumona Chakravarti talks about her journey and reacts to her absence from the popular comedy talk show, The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, hosted by her longtime collaborator Kapil Sharma. Having been a part of Sharma's shows since 2013, she says she is equally unaware about her absence from the ongoing Netflix series and thanks the fans who miss her.
Chakravarti, well-known for the work in Comedy Nights with Kapil (2013-2016) and The Kapil Sharma Show (2016-23), says she has been frequently asked about her absence but she too doesn't have an answer to it. She says, since her previous show ended last July, she has been meeting people, focusing on personal growth, and 'keeping the portfolio alive.'
This new venture, "The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show," hosted by Sharma, in association with Netflix, boasts a multitalented cast. But not being a part of the show, Chakravarti finds solace in her fans' love and support, saying they often tell her how they miss her.
Asked why she isn't a part of “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show”, she told PTI: “I don’t have an answer to this. The show that I was part of, which was on another channel, ended last year in July. Since then, I’ve been on my own journey, doing my own things, networking, and meeting people.” Sharma partnered with streaming service Netflix for a new venture “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show”, which features Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Rajiv Thakur, and Archana Puran Singh.
Sharing fan love, Chakravarti says people often come up to her and tell her how much they have loved her work in TV and films. She takes encouragement from her fans to try out different things in life.
“I know fans have missed (me on the show), I’ve seen their messages. I meet people everywhere, the moment you step out of the house, your neighbours tell you (they miss seeing you on the show). That is exactly what motivates you to do something different."
“When I was in London last year, I had so many Indians telling me that they liked me in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. It’s really nice to see the love coming whether it’s for Bade Achhe… or Comedy Nights…. It’s great and you know you are doing something right. Nobody expected me to do well in comedy (but I did it)” she added.
Next, Chakravarti reveals she is extremely excited about being a part of the stunt reality show 'Khatron Ke Khiladi 14'. She says it will be a challenge and an opportunity to present her real self to the audience.
Talking about her earlier projects, Chakravarti says, "Bade Achhe Lagte Hain" and "Barfi!" did a lot for her career. She loved the experiences she had and the lessons she learned from working with acclaimed directors and actors.
Doing "Khatron Ke Khiladi" is in line with Chakravarti's aspirations of pushing the envelope and exploring new frontiers. She points to her mother's constant insistence on taking part in the show, as an opportunity to break away from the stereotypical frame and show the world who she actually is.
With the upcoming season of "Khatron Ke Khiladi" in the pipeline, with an ensemble cast of celebrity contestants, Chakravarty is certainly looking forward to the great adventure and making audiences warm up to her in a new and thrilling way.
