British rock band Coldplay on Sunday added a third show to the Mumbai leg of its "Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025," citing "phenomenal demand," hours after fans expressed disappointment over long virtual queues on the online ticket platform BookMyShow.
The site of the platform said that all three events are sold out. The new event will be held on January 21 at Mumbai's DY Patil Sports Stadium. The tickets were available at BookMyShow since 2 pm.
Due to phenomenal demand, a third Mumbai date has been added at DY Patil Stadium on 21 January, 2025. Tickets on sale at 2PM IST today: Coldplay shared on X, along with the booking link.
According to reports, the server of BookMyShow website and app crashed on Sunday while opening the sale for the British band's concerts scheduled next year. Soon, the hashtags 'Coldplay', 'BookMyShow', and 'Crashed' started trending on X.
Coldplay was promoting two events already on January 18 and 19, 2025, at DY Patil Sports Stadium. Fans are meanwhile sharing screenshots of their frozen computer screens and smartphone with the app that is getting much traffic, in fact.
According to the website BookMyShow, the sale for tickets of the two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at Mumbai's DY Patil Sports Stadium, was to open at 12 noon. Many said that the tickets were not available for booking even more than 12:15 pm.
A BookMyShow spokesperson described it as a "landmark moment" in India's live entertainment history while noticing true fandom, overwhelming love, and incredible excitement on the platform for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India. To their knowledge, 1.3 crores fans logged in on Sunday to buy tickets.
"We continued to work hard for BookMyShow and BookMyShow Live to allow every fan a fair chance at the tickets, with clear step-by-step instructions on how to book along with open communication through all our official channels," he added.
"We put in a queueing system for handling the overwhelming demand and used minutes to take care of issues created by suspicious and malicious traffic, thus causing a brief delay but making sure that the fans who actually wanted to go through faced minimal disruption. Since demand was unprecedented, we added a third show in Mumbai as well shortly, and it too received an outstanding response," the spokesperson said in a statement.
"To those who got tickets, congratulations! For those who missed out, we understand your disappointment and are committed to bringing memorable entertainment experiences your way," the spokesperson of the platform added.
The ticket prices have been stated as ranging between Rs 2,500 to Rs 12,500, while the lounge area ticket will cost Rs 35,000, according to the website of the platform.
In less than an hour, the server returned, and BookMyShow put up a message of facing "heavy traffic" on every account attempting to book a ticket, the waitlist going as high as 842,745 (data on BookMyShow website as per 1:39 pm).
"As a precautionary measure towards preventing heavy traffic, the queue is moving slower than expected. Thank you for your patience!" read a message on the platform.

"These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and liable for legal prosecution. So don't fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets. Avoid scams! BookMyShow is the only official ticketing platform," the platform said in a post on X. A few good Samaritans suggested refreshing the page for the ones waiting.
