Singer Diljit Dosanjh has been advised by the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights not to sing 'Patiala Peg', some of his hit songs, at his concert on 14th December as they advocate alcohol, drugs, violence, and affect children.
He will perform in Chandigarh during his 'Dil-Luminati' India Tour. "Avoid performing songs like 'Patiala Peg, '5 Tara', and 'Case' even with twisted words in which alcohol, drugs and violence are promoted. These songs affect children of impressionable age," the commission said in an advisory on Wednesday.
It advised Dosanjh not to invite children on stage during the live show where the peak sound pressure level is above 120db, saying it is "harmful" for them. It also sought to make sure that liquor is not dispensed to anyone under the age of 25; it is a prohibited activity by provisions of law.
The advisory comes in the wake of alcohol and drug usage concerns raised by Dosanjh's concerts that made him issue a warning to the singers: Stop promoting alcohol and drugs. In Hyderabad, Dosanjh who adhered to the advisory modified the song's words changing alcohol to 'coke', prompting the Chandigarh authorities to place further restrictions too along with a ban on allowing the singer to alter its words.
The latest advisory follows a campaign initiated by a Chandigarh-based Associate Professor Pandit Rao Dharennavar who has been in the forefront about checking the glamorous promotions of alcohol, drugs and violence.
He filed a complaint with the Telangana government, leading to a notice being issued to Dosanjh before his Hyderabad show on November 15. “Promoting such songs during live shows goes against the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s directions,”Dharennavar said, adding he would consider filing a contempt petition if Dosanjh disregards these warnings.
Ahead of the mega concerts of Dosanjh and A.P. A delegation of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal visited Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav on December 14 and 21, respectively, and demanded shifting of the mega concerts held from the Sector 34 exhibition ground to rally ground in Sector 25. The traders pleaded that recent shows of singer Karan Aujla had caused business losses to the traders of Sector 34 and other adjoining markets, apart from inconvenience to people because of traffic jams.
Such big concerts cannot be held at the Sector 34 exhibition ground, and therefore, such events should not be allowed in the sector, which is situated in the congested area of the city, they added.
