Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood's legendary 'Shahenshah,' reflected on the significant transformations witnessed in the film industry throughout his five-decade-long career, notably highlighting the increased presence and roles of women on sets.
In the recent episode 75 of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' season 15, Bachchan engaged in a conversation with contestant Rupak Kumar from Begusarai, Bihar, who queried about the changes observed in the film industry since Bachchan commenced his journey in the 1970s.
Recalling a similar query posed by acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur in the past, Bachchan shared an anecdote from his shooting days to illustrate the industry's evolution. He reminisced about pointing out a crew member handling lights to Kapur, emphasizing the shift in attire from tattered pyjamas and rubber slippers to more contemporary attire like jeans and sneakers, signifying progress for the labor force within the industry.
The veteran actor underscored a notable increase in the presence of women on sets, with nearly 50 percent representation in various departments, including production, direction, and set designing. He acknowledged the pivotal roles women now hold, highlighting the significant expansion from an era where only a few women, such as the lead actress and her mother, were commonly seen on sets.
Bachchan expressed admiration and respect for the contributions of these women, recognizing the transformation from a time when their presence was limited to a more significant and influential role they hold today.
Additionally, Bachchan touched upon technical advancements in filmmaking, transitioning from traditional celluloid films to the utilization of chips in the present era, highlighting the industry's technological evolution.
