Ben Affleck is embracing his awkward side both on and off camera as he prepares for The Accountant 2. The Hollywood actor recently confessed that, like his socially impaired character Christian Wolff, he too has a problem flirting and picking up cues—particularly at the beginning of relationships.
Speaking freely, Affleck said, "Here's a guy who's trying to navigate – he wants to be with a woman, he's trying to figure out how to do that, like, how to put yourself out there." He added that Wolff's unease in romance reflects his own: "He's not comfortable putting himself out there. like so many of us.
The actor, who recently closed out his divorce from Jennifer Lopez earlier this year, also mused about the intricacies of dating overall. "It's not easy for anyone trying to figure out relationships," he explained, pointing to how disorienting it is to read signs and risk getting rejected.
One especially charming moment in The Accountant 2—where his character attempts line-dancing on a date—specialized in Affleck. Even joking about his own abilities ("I probably am not going to get a lot more demands for my line-dancing work"), he described the scene as "kind of a lovely thing."
Affleck and Lopez had resumed their relationship in 2021 after almost twenty years apart, but their union formally ended in 2024. In an interview with GQ, Affleck characterized the breakup as "drama-free" and still spoke well of Lopez, terming her "somebody I have a lot of respect for."
This is Affleck's second celebrity divorce; he was once wed to actress Jennifer Garner between 2005 and 2018.
With The Accountant 2 on the horizon and his signature self-deprecating humor in full force, it appears Affleck is set for his next act—klutzy dance steps and all.
