Renowned actors Arif Zakaria and Ira Dubey are going to appear in significant roles in the upcoming political thriller drama, 'Freedom at Midnight'. Arif will portray the complicated persona of Muhammad Ali Jinnah as the series goes deep into his complicated journey.
When asked about playing Jinnah, he expressed how he did not want to make Jinnah out to be a hero, but rather as a 'human, flawed but complex one'. He wanted to delve deep into the inner workings of Jinnah's mind and his reasons, therefore, to make Jinnah real and wholly authentic.
Meanwhile, Ira talked about her character, Fatima Jinnah, and how it is 'different and challenging'. Fatima's relationship with her brother, Jinnah, and how she was such an influential person in his life will be a core focus of the series, which will give an insight into their dynamic.
Speaking about the casting, showrunner and director Nikkhil Advani said, "Arif carries a striking physicality and commanding voice that instantly says Jinnah to me." He also said that Ira was brought on board as she can bring the required elegance and strength to play Fatima. He praised the actors as they portrayed the characters with accuracy and sincerity.
The series is produced by Emmay Entertainment in association with StudioNext and Sony LIV. It has a very talented team of writers such as Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor.
The much-anticipated 'Freedom at Midnight' is finally going to air on Sony LIV, with an interesting plot that is expected to unravel historical figures like none have seen before.
