Amidst the controversy sparked by Maldives politician Zahid Rameez's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan praised India's self-reliance and marveled at the breathtaking beauty of Lakshadweep and the Andamans.
Zahid Rameez, a council member of the Progressive Party of Maldives, had mocked PM Modi's visit, asserting that India could not compete with Maldives in terms of tourism.
In response, Bollywood celebrities encouraged their fans to explore Indian islands and took to social media to promote these destinations. Joining the initiative, Amitabh Bachchan shared former cricketer Virender Sehwag's tweet and expressed his admiration for the beauty of Lakshadweep and the Andamans. He emphasized the self-reliance of India and urged not to cast doubt on the country's self-sufficiency.
Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "Viru paji... this is so relevant and in the right spirit of our land. Our own are the very best. I have been to Lakshadweep and Andamans, and they are such astonishingly beautiful locations. Stunning waters, beaches, and the underwater experience is simply unbelievable. Ham Bharat hain, ham aatmanirbhar hain, hamari aatmanirbharta pe aanch mat daaliye.. Jai Hind."
Other Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor, and John Abraham have also supported the promotion of Indian islands.
On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan recently hosted the quiz-based reality show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 15'. His upcoming projects include 'The Umesh Chronicles', 'Kalki 2898 AD', 'Butterfly', and 'Vettaiyan'.
