Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who recently incited a storm with his comments on a YouTube program, has accepted that he was at fault after recording his apology statement. before the Maharashtra Cyber, officials said.
The Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai police are investigating Allahbadia's controversial comments made on comedian Samay Raina's YouTube program, India's Got Latent.
His remarks, which included offensive references to sex and parents, had sparked severe criticism, for which several FIRs were registered against him.
On Monday, Allahbadia and another popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani appeared separately before Maharashtra Cyber authorities to record their statements in connection with the case of obscenity registered against them and others, an official said.
"In his apology, Allahbadia confessed that he made a mistake by expressing controversial statements on the show, which have received widespread outrage," the official added.
The influencer also admitted that the words he used were not appropriate, according to officials.
He further explained that his appearance on India's Got Latent was all due to being friends with Samay Raina and that he did not accept any remuneration for showing up on the show, the official further said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cyber logged the testimony of social media influencer Apoorva Makhija on Tuesday in relation to the investigation that is currently underway. Makhija is one of the persons listed in the obscenity case.
The authorities have also called actress Rakhi Sawant for questioning on February 27, as she had been a guest on the show, the official said.
The statement of Samay Raina is yet to be recorded, while Assam police have also initiated an investigation into the obscenity case against Allahbadia and others.
