75th Emmys: Elton John Joins EGOT Club, Wins Emmy for 'Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger’s Stadium'

Regrettably, due to his recovery from a knee operation, Elton John was unable to attend the ceremony. In his absence, producer Ben Winston took the stage to represent him.

On Monday, the iconic entertainer Elton John achieved a rare and prestigious milestone by joining the exclusive club of EGOT winners—individuals who have secured an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony throughout their illustrious careers. The 76-year-old British singer-songwriter became the 19th person ever to achieve this feat when "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium" won Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the Emmys in Los Angeles.

Regrettably, due to his recovery from a knee operation, Elton John was unable to attend the ceremony. In his absence, producer Ben Winston took the stage to represent him. The winning special documented Elton John's final show in North America as part of his extensive farewell tour, which Billboard magazine reported grossed nearly a billion dollars.

Winston expressed the unforeseen historic nature of the win, stating, "We did know this was going to be historic because it was going to be Elton's last ever show in North America. We didn't know it was going to be historic because it was going to win a man who has created the soundtrack to all of our lives, who has done so much great for society, who is all of our heroes—we didn't know that it was going to win him an EGOT."

Elton John's EGOT achievement is further testament to his remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry. His two Oscars are for best original song ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from "The Lion King" and "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" from "Rocketman"). He also holds a Tony Award for his original score for "Aida" and five Grammys, including one for "Candle in the Wind" in 1998.
