DU Admissions 2022: Youtube videos, Instagram, Facebook reels won't count as extracurricular activities

This year, admissions through the ECA quota will be done in 14 ECA categories, and the candidates can apply for a maximum of 3 ECA categories, however, admission will be offered in only one category, said the officials during a webinar. Youtube videos, Instagram or Facebook reels, and vlogs will not be considered as public performances for consideration for admission under the extracurricular activities (ECA) quota, according to Delhi University officials.

“YouTube uploads, Facebook and Instagram reels, vlogs, and other similar uploads on other non-peer reviewed video streaming sites will not be considered for marking as part of public performance for admission under ECA categories,” Indian Express quoted Deepti Taneja, joint dean of DU’s cultural council office, as saying during the webinar.

According to the officials, for an ECA score of 75 marks, 60 marks shall be awarded on the basis of physical trials and 15 marks shall be awarded on the basis of the submitted certificates.

Deepti Taneja further said, “We are getting queries from candidates who do not have certificates but wish to apply under the ECA category… They will not be debarred just because they do not have certificates. They will get zero marks out of 15 but their score in the trials will be taken into account.”

Meanwhile, Taneja also made it clear that in the quiz category, students will be tested on general knowledge and not on subject-specific knowledge.

Haneet Gandhi, dean (admissions) said the entire schedule for both the sports and ECA trials will be announced around October 10.
