Volkswagen has expanded the Tayron range in India with the introduction of the Tayron Life, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned Rs 5 lakh below the flagship R-Line variant, the new trim retains the same powertrain while adopting a more restrained design in place of the sport-oriented styling offered on the top-spec model.
With the launch of the Life variant, the Tayron becomes a more accessible proposition in Volkswagen's five-seat SUV portfolio. The model continues to be positioned above the company's mainstream SUVs and competes with rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. Like the R-Line, the Tayron Life is assembled locally at Volkswagen's manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The most noticeable distinction between the two variants lies in their exterior styling. Unlike the R-Line, the Tayron Life does not feature the gloss-black cosmetic treatment. As a result, elements such as the front grille, door cladding, wheel-arch surrounds and rear bumper trim receive a more conventional finish.
At the front, the SUV adopts a cleaner bumper design complemented by L-shaped grille slats, while a silver accent beneath the grille lends the fascia a subtler appearance. The slim Matrix LED headlamps, illuminated Volkswagen logo and connecting light bar have been retained from the higher-spec version.
The Tayron measures 4,792 mm in length and rides on a wheelbase of 2,789 mm. It is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, smaller than those fitted to the R-Line, giving the SUV a more understated side profile with clean, straight body lines. At the rear, the bumper has been simplified, although the connected tail-lamps, roof spoiler, full-width light bar and illuminated Volkswagen badge remain unchanged.
The cabin layout is virtually identical to that of the R-Line, with only a few model-specific R-Line badges omitted. Equipment levels also remain largely unchanged, with the Tayron Life featuring a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, nine airbags and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Powering the Tayron Life is the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine available in the R-Line. The unit develops 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is delivered to all four wheels through Volkswagen's all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
