Elon Musk announced that he chose the date of the launch for the robotaxi on August 8th because the number 8 is considered to be auspicious in Chinese culture. He arrived at this conclusion after visiting China, in which he also received approval to allow the installation of Tesla's FSD software and which shot Tesla stock more than 15 percent higher.
