Toronto Shooting: One Killed, Five Wounded in Mass Gunfire Incident

A horrific mass shooting shook Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday night, killing one man and wounding five others, who received non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, police authorities say.

Emergency services were dispatched to Flemington and Zachary Roads, close to Ranee Avenue and Allen Road, around 8:30 p.m. local time following several reports of shots being fired. The shooting occurred in a highly populated residential area just south of the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York.

Toronto Police confirmed the victims in a series of tweets on X:

"Shooting:(UPDATE) 1 male confirmed dead, 5 individuals suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot injuries transported to hospital COMMAND POST: Ranee Ave & Allen Rd (under overpass)," the initial update stated.

Authorities subsequently clarified that all five hurt individuals had been taken to hospital and were expected to recover.

"Shooting:(UPDATE) -5 ppl taken to hospital w/gunshot wounds -injuries are not known at this point -Command Post set up in area of Ranee Ave Flemington Rd -further details to come," police further stated in an update.

A command post has also been set up at the scene where the shooting happened as the investigation continues. No suspects have yet been named, and police have made no arrests.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow stated she was grateful and alarmed for the first responders who were present.

Deeply troubled to hear of the shootings in Lawrence Heights tonight. My office is in communication with the Toronto Police, who are on the scene now and investigating, and Deputy Mayor Mike Colle, the local councillor. I would like to express my gratitude to the first responders – the Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your response to a very active and difficult scene. The Toronto Police are working on getting an update out shortly," she posted on X.

Authorities have called upon anyone with information about the shooting to report it since the motive behind the attack is still unclear. Area residents are still on guard as the investigation continues.
