President, VP remember Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary

The President, along with other officials, paid floral tributes to the leader at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He also visited Sardar Patel Chowk in the national capital to pay homage at the statue of the freedom fighter. Venkaiah Naidu remembered called him as a "colossal figure" in the freedom struggle, a messiah for peasants, a sagacious statesman, organiser par excellence and epitome of wisdom.

Naidu was speaking at a function organised to mark the inauguration of a new college campus in North Goa. "The history of the country (is about) the civilization, values, ethics. The great tradition set by our forefathers should be taught to our children. They should feel proud of their heritage, With confidence they must enter life. The Vice President also said that heads of educational institutions should change the syllabus to incorporate feats and deeds of national and local heroes of the land.

Naidu, who is in Bengaluru on an official tour, celebrated Rakshabandhan at Raj Bhavan with school children from various local schools. During the past one year, Naidu delivered 53 lectures, released 23 books, visited over 21 institutions, addressed 7 convocations, attended 4 award ceremonies and laid foundation stones for 3 projects.

Among the lawmakers who will be felicitated by Naidu are former Union Minister of State for External Affairs Eduardo Faleiro and former Chief Minister and sitting Congress MLA Pratapsingh Rane. "We have shortlisted five legislators who have contributed to the state in their stints as MLAs," Patnekar said.
