A bench, headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud and comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and Manoj Misra, expressed its concern over the “headless” institution. “It is sad no one cares about the institution,” remarked Justice Narasimha. The top court indicated that it will temporarily appoint someone on pro tem basis to felicitate functioning of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) till disposal of the case.

SC grants AAP leader Satyendar Jain interim bail on medical grounds

A bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and P.S. Narasimha granted interim bail to Jain to get treated in a private hospital of his choice, adding that the bail will be subject to conditions imposed by the trial court. The top court turned down the Enforcement Directorate (ED) plea that Jain should be first examined by a panel of doctors in AIIMS.

Firebrand BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that he respects the court order. "I don't want to comment on the court's decision. I am not against the caste-based census in Bihar." Interacting with media persons at Patna airport, he said that Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad have been in power in Bihar for the last 35 years and "should disclose how many jobs they have given to Dalits, Mahadalits, EBCs at the panchayat and block level".

'Not subject to advice of Delhi govt': LG to SC on power to nominate aldermen in MCD
