PV Sindhu drops to world No. 17, lowest ranking since January 2013
This is Sindhu's lowest ranking in over a decade. The last time she was ranked 17th in the women's singles category was in January, 2013. The 28-year old shuttler was world No. 12 in the standings last week. Sindhu, who achieved a career-best ranking of world No. 2 back in April 2017, started the 2023 season as the world No. 7 women’s singles player but has slipped down the list after enduring a poor run of form in the few months.

Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu registered an easy 21-14, 21-12 win over Sung Shuo Yun of the Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16 women's singles. Lakshya, meanwhile, beat the Czech Republic’s Jan Louda 21-8, 23-21 in his men's singles second-round match.

The ace Indian shuttler made it to the final of the Spain Masters BWF Super 500 tournament in April but is yet to win a title this year. Sindhu will be up against her rival and reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the semifinals. Sindhu leads world No. 1 Yamaguchi 14-10 in head-to-head but was defeated by the Japanese shuttler in the first round of the Singapore Open last month.

Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu registered a comfortable 21-16, 21-9 win over world No.62 Talia Ng of Canada in the opening round on Wednesday night. Sindhu and Talia went toe-to-toe in the early stages. With the scores tied at 13-all, the Indian ace unleashed a series of smashes to gain the upper hand and pocketed the opening game.

PV Sindhu, ranked 13th in the world, secured a win 21-19, 21-15 over world no 9 Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, whom she lost in the semifinal of the Malaysia Masters last month. The Indonesian shuttler had earlier denied Sindhu the Madrid Spain Masters title with a victory in the final.

Coming into the tournament as the defending champion, Sindhu lost 21-18, 19-21,17-21 to the reigning world champion and No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the women's singles opening round BWF Super 750 event. This was Sindhu's tenth loss against Yamaguchi but she still leads the head-to-head tally against the Japanese 14-10.

World No 11 Sindhu suffered her sixth straight defeat against the South Korean shuttler by going down 21-18, 5-21, 9-21. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, began well and won the first game despite trailing 13-16 at one stage. The Indian had never won a game against An Se Young in their previous five meetings.

Sindhu advanced to the women's singles pre-quarterfinals with a 21-15, 22-20 win over Chinese Taipei's Wen Chi Hsu. The Indian took 46 minutes to wrap up the win over the Chinese Taipei shuttler. In the first game, Sindhu trailed 11-14 but the world No. 11 Indian badminton player registered nine points in a row to turn the tables and took the lead.
