Sports Ministry approves foreign training camps for Neeraj Chopra and three others

Funding for these would be provided under the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and would cover the player and their support staff's flight, accommodation, local travel, and food costs among other expenditures. TOPS will also provide each athlete an out-of-pocket allowance of $50 per day for any other expense they might incur during their stay.

The ace javelin thrower started his night off with a foul throw. However, he registered a throw of 88.44m in his second attempt and that was enough for him to seal the contest for himself. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist registered an 88m throw in his third attempt and 86.11m in his fourth attempt. His fifth attempt was 87m while his last attempt was 83.6m.

Neerj Chopra on Friday finished first at the Lausanne Diamond League, becoming the first Indian to clinch the top spot in a Diamond League meet, after registering an 89.08m throw in his first attempt. In the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year, Chopra had thrown a personal best of 89.94m and had finished second.

This will be Chopra's first event since the world championship silver and after missing the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham due to injury. The star athlete had suffered the injury during the final of the World Championships on July 24 in Eugene, USA. The 24-year-old athlete is currently based in Saarbr�cken, Germany, along with his coach Dr Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha.
