Shehbaz Sharif, who led the Pakistan Democratic Movement coalition government from April 2022 to August 2023 after ousting his predecessor Imran Khan from office in a no-confidence vote in Parliament, is now setting the platform for the return of his elder brother Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan through a heroic welcome. 

As per the video, shared on several social media sites, as well as Pakistani social media discussion forum Siasat.pk, the woman waved at the car in which the Pakistani leader was travelling on the front seat, and it stopped, and the driver rolled down the window.

"In my capacity as the party President, I have nominated Nawaz Sharif as PML-N's prime ministerial candidate," said Shehbaz Sharif, the younger brother of Nawaz Sharif. He emphasized that the final decision on the date of general elections rests with the Election Commission of Pakistan, adding that his party wanted to conduct the polls as soon as possible, Express Tribune reported.

Shehbaz Sharif had assumed office on April 11, 2022 after ousting his predecessor Imran Khan through a no-confidence vote, which was tailored via political maneuvering of the then opposition parties that formed the PDM coalition. Shehbaz emerged as a statesman, whose premiership was a result of a mutual agreement between major political parties, including Pakistan People Party (PPP).

The PML-N Central General Council re-elected Shehbaz as party president for another four years in intra-party elections at a meeting here, reports The News. After his re-election, Shehbaz said he would hand over PML-N presidentship to Nawaz Sharif once he returned home.

As per details, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) division bench granted two-week interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has called upon the party leadership to mobilise its supporters for the protests, Samaa TV reported.

Asif feigned ignorance about any investigation related to Gen Hameed's brothers, as opposed to the claims made by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Samaa TV reported. The defence minister said if party leader Maryam Nawaz has made any comments about the probes, she must have some information.

The PML-N scion, during an informal discussion with journalists in Lahore, spoke about the PTI chief hiding inside a burrow and avoiding appearing in courts - in reference to the ex-Prime Minister residing at his Lahore residence and not appearing before the judges despite being repeatedly ordered to do so, Geo News reported.

Before elections, Nawaz Sharif wants me to be disqualified and sent to jail, Imran Khan said in a televised address, Samaa TV reported. He also said Pakistan is passing through a critical juncture, and "if correct decisions are not taken, the country will suffer a great loss". Imran Khan also said that in developed countries, only rule of law prevails.

Speaking to the media in London on Thursday evening after holding talks with his party colleagues including Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Sharif reminded people of his Gujranwala speech to a PDM rally on October 16, 2020 in which he shocked Pakistan by directly accusing former army chief General (retd) Qamar Bajwa and former ISI chief Lt General (retd) Faiz Hameed of rigging elections.
