Last rites of Odisha minister, shot dead by a cop, performed

The mortal remains of Das were cremated at Kherual ground in Jharsuguda in the presence of several ministers, MPs, MLAs and thousands of his supporters. Das's son Vishal lit the funeral pyre following Hindu tradition. When Das's body reached Jharsuguda, a large number of his supporters went to his home to pay last respect to the departed leader. Leaders from western Odisha, cutting across party lines, also paid tribute to him.
If women shower blessings, BJD will continue to serve Odisha for 100 years: Patnaik

Patnaik said this while addressing party leaders and workers at the silver jubilee celebration of BJD's foundation day in Puri. Playing the women card before the 2024 Assembly and general elections, the BJD president called on the women of the state to come forward and assume leadership roles. "With the blessings of our mothers, BJD will be able to serve the people of Odisha for 100 years and not just 25 or 50 years," Patnaik said.
Early trends show BJD leading in Odisha's Padampur bypoll

With the end of eight rounds of counting of votes, BJD's Barsha Singh Bariha got 43,691 votes while BJP nominee Pradip Purohit received 28,150 votes. Congress candidate Satya Bhusan Sahu is in third position with only 1,634 votes.

The asset details of Patnaik and his cabinet colleagues have been uploaded on the website of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). Patnaik's declaration revealed that he has six bank accounts in locations such as New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Hinjilicut in Ganjam, and Padampur in Bargarh.
BJD to support NDA's Vice Presidential nominee Dhankhar

The BJD has decided to extend its support to Dhankhar after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to BJD President and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over phone and sought his support, party General Secretary, Media affairs, Manas Mangaraj said in a tweet. Some senior BJD leaders are also likely to remain present during the filing nomination papers by Dhankhar on July 19, he said. The tenure of present Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu is going to end on August 10.
