BHIM-UPI has emerged as the preferred payment mode of users. The Government of India also launched the digital payment solution e-RUPI, a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment, which is expected to play a huge role in making Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) more effective in digital transactions in the country.

"UPI P2P accounted for 49 per cent in volume and 67 per cent in value but in terms of merchants' transactions, UPI P2M emerged as the preferred payment mode with a market share of 34 per cent in volume and 17 per cent in terms of value," said Worldline's 'India Digital Payments Report'.

"With the acceptance of card payments via UPI the transaction volumes are bound to grow strongly and the average value per transaction too will increase. Through this growth, the NPCI systems have been robust and have rendered uptime that stands among the best in the payments industry. NPCI is on track to achieve their vision of 1 billion transactions per day," said Rajesh Mirjankar MD and CEO, Kiya.ai.

"UPI is a digital public good with immense convenience for the public & productivity gains for the economy. There is no consideration in Govt to levy any charges for UPI services. The concerns of the service providers for cost recovery have to be met through other means," the Finance Ministry said in a tweet.

With ONDC, a Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-type initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote open networks, the government is trying to create the largest interoperable open platform in a bid to break e-commerce monopolies and build a more democratised digital marketplace by bringing micro, small, and medium enterprise as well as small traders online. Currently, only 5-6 per cent of India's retail activity is digital.

Amid the hullabaloo over Ashneer and Madhuri Jain Grover and their tussle with BharatPe, the admin head at the fintech firm who was Madhuri Jain's close relative and allegedly involved in the misappropriation of funds, was also sacked.

"We may see the Government of India move further ahead with PLI schemes and provide more sops/opportunities for companies to invest in new age areas such as EV, clean energy (renewables and green hydrogen), robotics, AI, electronics, battery storage, semiconductors, etc", it added.

In the month of October that saw record festive shopping across e-commerce platforms, digital payments witnessed 4.2 billion UPI transactions in total. In September, the NPCI recorded digital payments worth Rs 6.54 lakh crore via 3.65 billion UPI transactions.

This will allow users of each of the two fast payment systems to make instant, low-cost fund transfers on a reciprocal basis without a need to get onboarded onto the other payment system. The linkage is targeted for operationalisation by July 2022. The UPI-PayNow linkage is a milestone in the development of infrastructure for cross-border payments between India and Singapore.

Today's inward remittances are processed via payment modes such as NEFT/IMPS/RTGS. This partnership will help International partners to push funds to beneficiaries on-boarded on UPI apps which means anyone from the Merchantrade network is able to do real-time remittances to India. The solution will assist with Beneficiary name matching and facilitate all the requisite compliance checks in a safe, secure, and convenient manner.
