The party's General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has said that Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has approved both appointments. The Rajya Sabha Chairman has also been informed about the appointments, Ramesh added. The appointments came at a time when the relationship between the Rajya Sabha Chairman and the Congress is "low", with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar openly targeting Rahul Gandhi for his remarks in the UK.

Ramesh is the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment, Forests & Climate Change. "The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has said that the decision to have his personal staff attached to various parliamentary committees was taken after consultations with the respective chairpersons. I chair a standing committee and I can categorically say that I wasn't consulted at all," Ramesh said.

In his address at an event here, he said: "You know the importance of Committees. I got inputs from a number of members and Chairmen of Committees to do something affirmative to improve productivity. So, I sharpened the human resource attached to Committees. I put research-oriented, knowledgeable people so that they can help the Committee members to optimise output and performance."

RS Chairman rejects suspension notices on Adani row, AAP stages walkout

Sanjay Singh said all the notices were rejected and alleged that the government was stalling the discussion on Adani row. He had demanded suspension of business under rule 267 on Wednesday too, but the notice was rejected by the chair after which the AAP staged a walkout. The notice said that the public sector banks and LIC have lost money.
