England thrash India by 227 runs in 1st Test

After setting India a 420-run target, England bowled India out for 192 in 58.1 overs, with left-arm spinner Jack Leach taking four wickets and speedster James Anderson three. After winning the toss, England had scored 578 in their first innings and India posted 337, conceding a lead of 241. In their second innings, England made 178 and set a 420-run target for India.

At Lunch, India were in all sorts of trouble with their scorecard reading 144/6, still 276 runs behind the target. Resuming the final day at 39/1 in their pursuit of a tall chase of 420, India lost Cheteshwar Pujara early as he was caught in the slips against Jack Leach, after scoring 15 runs off the 38 ball he faced.
England will look to attack Indians on the last day

Chasing 420, India need 381 more runs and have nine wickets in hand on the last day of the first Test. "On the wicket, just seven metres down the length from the pavilion end, there is some variable bounce. Puffs of dust with the wicket breaking. There will be some reverse swing," Lewis told the media.
Chennai Test: India lose Rohit Sharma early in chase of 420

India, who lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma early, need a further 381 runs while visitors England need nine wickets. Sharma was bowled by left-arm spinner Jack Leach for 12. Cheteshwar Pujara (batting 12) and Shubman Gill (batting 15) were at the crease.

After dismissing India for 337 in the first innings in first session and gaining a 241-run first innings lead, England added to their lead through the day and that left India 17 overs to play on the fourth day. India will have to negotiate a further 90 overs on the fifth and final day.

He achieved the feat during England's second innings on Day Four of the first Test here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when he took the wicket of Rory Burns. The ball turned sharply taking the edge of the bat of Burns and went straight into the hands of vice captain Ajinkya Rahane standing in the slips.

It was just unlucky: Pujara on Tendulkar-like dismissal

"Yeah, it was [disappointing]. That is something [about] which I can't do much as a batsman. It was just unlucky. I would say that. That is the only way I could have got out. I was batting really well. The way I was playing my shots. The way I was seeing the ball. Everything was perfect," said Pujara after the end of the second day's play.
