India head coach Rahul Dravid stated in the press conference that Iyer can walk into the side if his body is ready to take the load of five days of playing a Test match. Iyer was sidelined for almost a month due to a back injury ruling him out of India's ODI series against New Zealand in January 2023.

"Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team," Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) Honorary secretary Jay Shah informed on Tuesday. Iyer will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second Test of the Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to VCA officials, the Aussies sought the ground from 10 AM for practice on what could actually have been the fifth day of the match as per the schedule. But the match ended on the third itself after Pat Cummins' side stumbled to 91 all out in their second innings inside one session as they were humbled by innings and 132 runs by Rohit Sharma's side thanks to superb bowling by Ravindra Jadeja, in the first innings, and Ravichandran Ashwin in the second.

As per a media release from BCCI, the All-India Senior Selection Committee took the decision to release Unadkat in consultation with the Indian team management. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee in consultation with the Indian team management has decided to release Jaydev Unadkat from India's squad for the 2nd Test of the Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," the media release said.

According to a cricket.com.au report, a member of the VCA Stadium ground staff was observed hosing down the pitch after the Australians left the ground on Saturday afternoon not long after India had wrapped up an innings victory inside three days. The report further said that the Australians had requested the pitch be kept intact to allow their misfiring top-order valuable additional practice the following afternoon.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a release that Jadeja was fined for applying cream to his bowling finger without permission from the umpires. It added that Jadeja did not, however, alter the condition of the ball. One demerit point added to Jadeja's disciplinary record means it is his first offence in 24 months. The incident occurred in the 46th over.

Ashwin bowled his overs from the North End of the ground and in 50-odd balls had the Australians reeling to their lowest-ever score in India. The previous lowest score for Australia was 93 they scored in 2004. Australia were bowled out in less than a session, their innings lasting 32.3 overs and lasted just 131 minutes. Ashwin, who claimed his 450th wicket in the first innings, recorded his 31st five-for as the Australian batters failed to read his bowling and went back to the pavilion in a procession.
