1 lakh notices sent in cases of misrepresentation of income, says Finance Minister

As many as 55,000 one-time cases were opened following a Supreme Court order, she said. In her address at the 164th Income Tax Day event, the Finance Minister said that tax rates have not gone up over the years, yet revenue has been constantly rising over the past three-four years.
GST evasion cases rose 23.5% in 2 years, 166% rise in detection in value terms

As per Finance Ministry data, in 2020-21, as many as 12,596 cases of GST evasion were detected, while in 2022-23, the cases rose by 23.5 per cent to 15,562. Also, in 2020-21, Rs 49,384 crore worth of GST evasion was detected, which rose by a humungous 166 per cent to Rs 1,31,613 crore in 2022-23.
Foreign portfolio investments fell sharply to (-) Rs 40,936 cr in 2022-23 from Rs 2,67,100 cr in 2020-21

In fact, if the FPI inflows for the last three years are any reflection, they had recorded negative inflows in 2021-22 also, according to finance ministry figures. FPI inflows had entered the negative zone, as they stood at (-) Rs 1,22,241 crore in 2021-22. However, in 2022-23 the FPI inflows further fell to (-) Rs 40, 936 crore.
Centre ratifies 8.15% interest rate for EPF subscribers for 2022-23

On March 28, the EPFO had slightly hiked the interest rate on EPF deposits to 8.15 per cent for 2022-23 for its over six crore subscribers. As per convention, the labour ministry sends the interest rate recommendations to the Finance Ministry for ratification.
Finance Ministry officials meet Moody's executives, seek upgraded rating

Moody's has retained its sovereign rating for India at the lowest investment grade of 'Baa3' with a 'stable' outlook.
Japan net external assets hit record in 2022 on yen's sharp decline

According to the Ministry, the country's net balance of external assets stood at a record 418.63 trillion yen ($2 trillion) in 2022, rising 0.2 per cent from a year earlier, reports Xinhua news agency. The government's external assets, along with those held by firms and individuals, also marked a record high, rising 6.6 per cent to 1,338.24 trillion yen and marking the 14th straight annual increase, the data showed.
MoS Finance bats for including 'new voters' in banking sector

Addressing a review meeting of Financial Inclusion Parameters of Western Maharashtra here, the MoS said special camps should be arranged for the purpose to include the 18-plus 'new voters' in the banking system. He also stressed on the need for banks to work towards the unbanked, securing the unsecured and funding the unfunded through various schemes of the government.
Global consensus essential for crypto assets regulation: Sitharaman

The IMF has given a paper on crypto-currency and the way it can affect the macroeconomic stability. "The Financial Stability Board (FSB), which was set up by G20, has agreed to give a report that will also focus on financial stability," Sitharaman said. Reports of both FSB and IMF will be discussed in July when Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors will meet under the G20 umbrella, the Finance Minister said.
Govt working towards clamping down ponzi apps, says Nirmala Sitharaman

Addressing an event in Karnataka's Tumkuru district, the Union mInister when asked if the Centre was planning to clamp down on "financial influencers" who give give financial advices on social media, said there is no such proposal as of now before the government. However she added that, "there are many ponzi apps on which we're working with the IT ministry and RBI and clamping down on them like never before".
