Tuesday was the last day for filing nomination papers. Election officials said that the nomination papers and other documents would be examined on Wednesday and the last date of withdrawal of candidatures is February 10. Chief Minister and senior Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio has filed his nomination.

IPFT President and state minister Prem Kumar Reang on Sunday said that they held a close door meeting with the TIPRA leaders led by party supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman in Guwahati on Saturday. "We are now talking with both the BJP and the TIPRA. Our seat-sharing talks remained inconclusive so far. Once this is finalised we would announce it before the public," the veteran tribal leader told IANS.

Sources say that top BJP leadership is contemplating a change in Madhya Pradesh but there is no confirmation yet on the same, but in the reshuffle, new faces from Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan could enter the Union Council of Ministers.

The state Brahmin association has given a call to the community members not to sit quiet with the ruling BJP's plan of allocating the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota to Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities which have 16 per cent and 17 per cent of the population in the state.

In fact, in 2023, assembly elections are also to be held in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, apart from Northeast states Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram. The government may also conduct the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir next year.

The MCD came into existence on April 7, 1958, under an Act of Parliament. Prior to that Delhi Municipal Committee (DMC) was the principal civic body of Delhi. Guru Radha Kishan served for the longest consecutive period as a councillor of the MCD. The first elected mayor of Delhi was Pt. Trilok Chand Sharma.

They were thinking that the combination of votes was in their favour and the BJP which was fighting alone in Bihar, would not face their might. Shivanand Tiwari, the national vice president of RJD admits that the Kurhani bypoll was lost in over-confidence and the strategists took it for granted .

The Congress won four of the five Assembly constituencies in the district, while an Independent won the fifth seat, once the stronghold of the Dhumal family. The winning Congress candidates were Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu from Nadaun, Inder Dutt Lakhnapal from Barsar, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur and Suresh Kumar in Bhoranj.

Sensing party heading to absolute majority in the state, Pratibha Singh, who has not contested the assembly polls, has been projected as the prospective Chief Minister. Coming out openly after retaining his Shimla (Rural) seat for the second consecutive term, Vikramaditya Singh said, "We will form a government with a full majority... She (Pratibha Singh) is one of the contenders for the CM post.

With the end of eight rounds of counting of votes, BJD's Barsha Singh Bariha got 43,691 votes while BJP nominee Pradip Purohit received 28,150 votes. Congress candidate Satya Bhusan Sahu is in third position with only 1,634 votes.
