8 dead in suicide bomb attack in Congo on Christmas

In a provisional assessment provided on Saturday night by General Ekenge Sylvain, spokesman for the governor of the North Kivu province, at least six people, including the suicide bomber, were killed and 13 others wounded in this "terrorist attack" in the city of Beni. According to the update delivered this Sunday morning by the medical director of the General Hospital of Beni, two other people died from the serious injuries caused by the explosion, adding that 14 other people were wounded, some in serious condition, Xinhua news agency reported.
DRC city partially evacuated over volcano eruption threat

Lieutenant General Kongba Constant, military governor of the North Kivu region, announced on the official TV broadcaster RTNC that 10 districts would be evacuated, reports dpa news agency. Authorities would organise transport, he said, and residents should take along only the bare necessities. Residents had fled their homes in panic, some even to neighbouring Rwanda, after the Nyiragongo volcano erupted on May 22.

Government spokesman Patrick Muyaya said that 15 people were killed while fleeing following the explosion on May 22, reports Xinhua news agency. Nine people were killed in a truck rollover accident, while four others were prisoners trying to break the Munzenze central prison in Goma, the spokesman said.
