17 suspects arrested over assassination of Haitian Prez

At least 28 people participated in the murder of the Haitian president, including 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans, Leon Charles, director of Haiti's National Police at a press conference here on Thursday. Eight other people have fled and three assassins were killed in the shootings with security forces, added the official. Moise was shot dead on Wednesday at his residence during an early morning raid by a group of gunmen.
Colombian Prez unharmed after attack on helicopter

The incident took place on Friday while the President's helicopter was flying through the Catatumbo region toward the city of Cucuta, capital of Norte de Santander province, reports Xinhua news agency. "The presidential helicopter was the target of an attack," Duque said, adding that he was accompanied by Defense Minister Diego Molano, Interior Minister Daniel Palacios, and governor of Norte de Santander Silvano Serrano.

Newspaper El Tiempo said there were six deaths on Saturday, while RCN Radio put the toll at seven, reprts dpa news agency. President Ivan Duque on Friday night sent additional military assistance to support police in the Valle del Cauca district, the epicentre of the protests of which Cali is the capital, after several people died in protests earlier in the day.

"Starting tonight the maximum deployment of military assistance will begin," the President said in a statement on Friday. "We can't have islands of anarchy in this country," Duque added.
