UK coronavirus-related death toll tops 1,00,000

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 1,00,162, the data showed. Britain is the first European nation and the fifth country in the world to pass the grim landmark of 1,00,000 deaths, following the US, Brazil, India and Mexico, the Xinhua news agency reported.
Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2021 cancelled

The carnival was originally scheduled for February 13-16, but was postponed to the middle of the year due to the pandemic. However, the Mayor assured that if mass vaccination against COVID-19 works, in 2022, "we will be able (all properly vaccinated) to celebrate life and our culture with all the intensity we deserve".

Brazil made a diplomatic push on Monday to guarantee an Indian-made shipment of British drugmaker AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine, according to a Reuters report from Brasilia. At the same time Brazil's private clinics have struck a preliminary deal for an alternative injection made by India's Bharat Biotech despite a lack of public results from late-stage trials, the report said.

Boeing 737 MAX resumes operation in Brazil

The inaugural flight from Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre on Wednesday was operated by Brazil's low-cost airline Gol, Xinhua news agency reported. But the airline declined to unveil further details of the inaugural flight. In March 2019, Gol announced its decision to suspend the use of Boeing 737 MAX 8 model planes until further notice.
