After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan's start was not good as they lost opener Fakhar Zaman early in the inning. However, Abdullah Shafique struck a fine half-century, 52 off 69 balls to prop up their innings.

The match starts at 5.15 pm with the team getting 45 overs each. Powerplay overs will be 9 overs.

Gill, who has slammed two half-centuries while amassing 154 runs in the ongoing Asia Cup, has 759 rating points and is the highest-ranked among three India players who are now in the top 10 of the ranking for the batters in ODIs, the first time this happened since January 2019.

The 213-run target wasn’t easy to chase on this pitch, which was tricky to bat on. The chase wasn’t good for the Lankans as they lost the wicket of Pathum Nissanka in the third over, after which they lost two more wickets in the Power-play.  Two of these three wickets were claimed by pacer Jasprit Bumrah while Mohammad Siraj bagged the third.
