KC Venugopal said Uttam Reddy, Danish Ali and I walked out in protest from the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence for not taking up the controversial Agnipath scheme despite our repeated requests and my earlier letter addressed to the Chairman, requesting a discussion.

Soon after the House assembled in the morning, noted former athlete P.T. Usha took oath as Member. Chaos reigned after Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition members demanded a discussion under rule 267. Kharge said that inflation has affected everyone as prices of all essential food items, LGP and others have skyrocketed. When the pandemonium continued unabated, the House was adjourned till 2 p.m.

As the House met for the day in morning, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other opposition members had given suspension of business notices under rule 267 to discuss 'Agnipath', hike in GST rates, price rise besides other issues which were rejected. As members continued to press for it, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House till 2 p.m.

On Monday, both the Houses could not function amid the demand for discussion on price rise and GST. The Rajya Sabha, on the first day of the Monsoon session on Monday, witnessed strong protests by the opposition benches demanding discussions on Agnipath, hike in GST rates and other issues, leading to the House being adjourned for the day.
Oppn memorandum against 'Agnipath' scheme not signed by Manish Tewari

According to onlookers, the Congress had staged a 'dharna' as a part of a call given by leaders for all India protest against the Agnipath scheme launched by the central government for Indian youths. Amid the dharna, a young man came and sought permission to speak about the scheme. On being given a mike, he started counting the benefits of the scheme which irked the agitators. Khalil Budana, General Secretary of the District Congress Committee, snatched the mike from the youth and thrashed him up.
