Athletics: Kenya pushes for upgrade of Kip Keino Classic to Diamond League

Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei said on Friday that the world governing body was considering their request. "There is only one Diamond League in Africa and hopefully the next time we are gathered here, we will be talking about a Diamond League event," Tuwei said at the launch of the 2023 Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Kenya's capital. The Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athletisme de Rabat, Morocco is the only African event in the annual Diamond League circuit.

The final ended 0-0 after 120 minutes with a major opportunity coming from a penalty for Senegal that was missed by Sadio Mane just seven minutes into the match. After a tense shootout, Senegal's most precious player and forward Mane scored the winning spot-kick as Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win their first-ever AFCON trophy. Senegal restored their reputation on the African football scene with the victory at the Olembe Stadium in Cameroon's capital city of Yaounde.
