Vidya Balan was born on January 1st, 1979, in Bombay, Maharashtra. She belongs to a Tamil Brahmin family, with her father's name being P.R. Balan and her mother's name being Saraswathy Balan.
Vidya completed her schooling from St. Anthony Girls’ High School and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College. Later, she attended the University of Mumbai for her Master’s degree.
She began her career in the television industry with the sitcom “Hum Paanch” at the age of 16. After her graduation, Vidya was cast in the Malayalam movie Chakram, but the movie was shelved.
