2020 was definitely a dull year for Hollywood, for obvious reasons, as even big-budget movies such as Tenet tanked on the box office. However, 2021 seems hopeful as fans anticipate releases of several established franchises from Fast and Furious to James Bond on one hand, while many new picks with ensemble casts have also been announced. Here's a list of the topmost anticipated movies to fare well this year :

Matrix 4 : The announcement of the fourth installment of The Matrix franchise, The Matrix 4 caused a flurry among fans as Keanu Reeves will be back as Neo. The movie is slated for a release on December 22, 2021 and fans can't keep calm as Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson also reprise their roles in the science fiction action film.

Fast and Furious 9 : The sequel to The Fate of The Furious and the ninth installment of the main franchise, Fast and Furious 9 will star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron. After facing several delays, the much-anticipated movie will hit US theatres on May 28, 2021.

Top Gun : Maverick Sequel to 1986's Top Gun, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer reprise their roles from the first action-drama hit alongside new characters played by Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly and Glen Powell. Maverick played by Cruise returns to action for a dangerous mission in this long-awaited sequel which is scheduled to release theatrically on July 2, 2021.

Justice League Zack Snyder's Justice League, commonly referred to as the "Snyder Cut", is an upcoming director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League. Already creating buzz, the movie has Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, reprising their superhero roles.

A Quiet Place 2 Directed by John Krasinski, the second installment of the silent-horror hit movie will follow the Abbott family with Emily Blunt in the lead, as they face grave terrors in the outside world. After the smashing hit the first part was, fans were desperately awaiting for the second part's release in 2020 but the movie got pushed several times and will now release in March, 2021.

No Time to Die The 25th installment of the James Bond franchise, starring Daniel Craig in his fifth and last outing as Bond, makes No Time to Die one of the most anticipated releases for so many multiple reasons. With an ensemble cast including new faces such as Rami Malek and Ana de Armas, the spy-thriller will release on April 2, 2021.

Black Widow 24th film of the MCU, Scarlett Johansson stars in and as Black Widow, set after Captain America: Civil War. After Natasha Romanoff's sad death in the Endgame, it becomes even more exciting to watch her on screen as her past unfolds while she is on the run. As the first film of the Phase four of the MCU, the movie will hit theatres on May 7, 2021.

The King's Man The third film in the Kingsman film franchise, and a spin-off prequel, The King's Man features Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes and Rhys Ifans in titular roles as they race to fight an evil group plotting to wipe millions. Delayed multiple times, The King's Man will finally be released on March 12, 2021.

Dune Adopted from a novel of the same name, Dune is an upcoming science-fiction movie featuring an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. In a bid to save human lives, Paul leads nomadic tribes to control the desert planet Arrakis in Dune, which is set to release on October 1, 2021.
