Even as the COVID crisis fledged this year and crashed everything that came in between, the motorcycle segment in the automobile sector saw some surprising overturns. Companies like Royal Enfield and KTM saw a sharp spike in the sales of their motorbikes while native company TVS witnessed a steep dip in the sales of its flagship Apache 310 RR. The sales and profits were scattered with many companies coming to India, which has a huge market for motorbikes (one of the largest) to test their metal. American motorbike giant Harley Davidson, famous for their bulky design style had a mixed year in terms of sales. Japanese Kawasaki had a disappointing year overall but still managed to make it to the list. However, the undisputed champion was Royal Enfield who shot way over in sales with respect to every other motorbike company. Here is the list of top 5 motorbike sales for FY20.

Royal Enfield- Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650: The Indian motorcycle manufacturing company takes the top spot of most motorbikes sold in 2020 with a combined sale of 20,188 units. The oldest global motorcycle brand’s Continental GT and Interceptor saw a staggering 291% growth this fiscal year as compared to FY19. Both the Continental GT and Interceptor start at a price of just over RS2,60,000.

KTM 390 series and 250 Duke: KTM had a successful year in the Indian Motorbike market as well with the total combined sales of its bikes reaching up to 12,671 for FY20. The 250 Duke makes up half of the total sales with 6,709 units sold independently. The 250 Duke saw a 12% rise in its sale this year than FY19. However, KTM has not released individual sales figures for the rest of the bikes. The Austrian motorbike company stated that the 390 series saw a 1.2% rise this year than the previous. The 250 Duke starts at Rs2 Lakh and the 390 series start from Rs2.48 Lakh

TVS Apache RR 310: TVS got the wrath of COVID crisis as its flagship Apache RR310’s sales dipped compared to the previous year. The Chennai-based motorcycle company sold a total of 2,299 units in FY20, 45% less than FY19 sales, resulting in negative growth. The Apache RR310 is priced at a decent Rs2.40 Lakh for the Indian market.

Harley Davidson Street 750 and Street Rod 750: Harley Davidson’s Street 750 is the most selling Harley motorcycle in India and given its price point of 5.34 lakh, one can see why. It is the cheapest motorcycle the American motorcycle company offers in India. Whereas, the Street Rod 750 comes with a higher price and more power. It sold considerably fewer units as well. The combined sales of both the bikes are 1,555 in FY20 with the Street 750 raking up 1,190 units individually. The Street Rod 750 costs Rs6.45 Lakh.

Kawasaki Ninja 300: Kawasaki motorbikes had been gaining momentum in the Indian markets year on year but this fiscal year the Japanese manufacture took a hit in its sales. Its flagship motorcycle offering, Ninja 300 showed poor performance in the market. Kawasaki sold a total of 1,014 units of Ninja 300, 13% less than the FY19 figures. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is priced at Rs2.98 Lakh.
