The annual ranking of the world's 10 most liveable cities for yer 2022 has been released on Thursday by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). According to the report, the Liveability Index rose sharply in the 2022 survey that was conducted between February 14 and March 13. “Scores for culture and environment, healthcare and education have improved on the back of Covid curbs being eased. However, the global average score remains below pre-pandemic levels,” report adds. The report concluded after ranking 173 cities around the world on a variety of factors, including health care, crime rates, political stability, infrastructure and access to green space. Canada emerged as the winner country, according to the report with 3 of its cities making it to the list, while last year's winner New Zealand's Auckland, fell out of the top 10 in 2022 to land at a surprising 34th place. Here're top 10 most liveable cities in the world, according to the EIU rankings:

Vienna (Austria) : Vienna is the national capital, largest city, and one of nine states of Austria. Interestingly it is the 6th-largest city by population in the European Union and the largest of all cities on the Danube river.

Copenhagen (Denmark): The capital and most populous city of Denmark is ranked at 2nd place in the most liveable city category. Copenhagen is situated on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand; another portion of the city is located on Amager, and it is separated from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of Øresund. The Øresund Bridge connects the two cities by rail and road.

Zurich (Switzerland): Top third most liveable city in the world, Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. It is located in north-central Switzerland, at the northwestern tip of Lake Zürich.

Calgary (Canada): Calgary is a city in the western Canadian province of Alberta. It is the 3rd largest city and 5th largest metropolitan area in Canada. Calgary's economy includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors.

Vancouver (Canada): Vancouver is a major city in western Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. Vancouver has the highest population density in Canada and it is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada.

Geneva (Switzerland): Another city of Switzerland made it to the list. Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich) and the most populous city of Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It is situated in the south west of the country and is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.

Frankfurt (Germany): Frankfurt, seventh most liveable city in the world is the most populous city in the German state of Hesse. Like France and Franconia, the city is named after the Franks. Frankfurt is the largest city in the Rhine Franconian dialect area.

Toronto (Canada): Toronto is the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario. The city is an international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture, and is recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Amsterdam (Netherlands): Amsterdam, the ninth most liveable city in the world, is the capital and most populous city of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is colloquially referred to as the "Venice of the North", due to the large number of canals which form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Osaka (Japan) and Melbourne (Australia): Interestingly it's a tie to be the 10th most liveable city in the world. Osaka in Japan and Melbourne in Australia share the spot together. Osaka is the capital of and most populous city in Osaka Prefecture, and the third most populous city in Japan, following Tokyo and Yokohama. Melbourne is the capital and most-populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania.
