Although Bollywood has seen many hit movies with a shoestring budget, there is also a long list of those that turned out to be a dud despite massive moolah gone in their making. Some of these movies with insane big budgets, star-studded cast, and marvelous directors could not cut ice with the audiences at all and bombed at the box office. Often these magnum opuses with gigantic sets and high-end graphics have been defeated by simpler slim budgeted movies with great stories and plots. And such hits and misses are a testimony to the fact that to get the booking registers ringing and to get the praise of movie lovers, a movie needs much more than just a huge budget. Shaandaar: Many won’t believe that this was the most anticipated movie of 2015. The audience felt really bad for this movie made on a big-budget of 75 crores. Despite a fresh pair, the glamorous set and amazing songs were not able to perform at the box office.

Bombay Velvet: Another disaster of 2015, The movie was a big scar on director Anurag Kashyap's career even lead actor Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma are all ready to disown this flop. A movie with an insanely big budget of 125 crores had to face a loss of 100 crores. Some say that this is the biggest flop in Bollywood history.

Tubelight: One of those rare Salman Khan movies that failed to perform well at the box office. When Tubelight came along in 2017, Salman had already given hits that raked in close to Rs 300 Crores. Tubelight failed to sit well with the audience and managed to collect just 119 crores.

Race 3: Yet another Salman Khan big-budget movie that turned out to be a big blunder. The previous installments in the Race series did fairly well. Race 3 however, was a memefest ever since its trailer dropped. The film managed to collect just Rs 166 Crores.

Zero: Zero was an experimental film all set to change the world of Bollywood cinema. Even after spending 200 crores on the movie nothing was able to Zero with no script. The producer even spent a lot on the promotion of the movie as well. Unfortunately, the movie was not able to cross 120 crores.

Saawariya: Under the banner of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Saawariya was the perfect launchpad for Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor to start their career. But the blue theme sets and the script wasn’t well-received.

Love Story 2050: The movie was in a lot of hype because of the VFX team from Australia and New Zealand. Special effects in the movie were the main highlight But producer Harry Baweja's plans of giving his son Harman Baweja his dream launch failed miserably due to a "senseless" script.

Kites: A brilliant actor, hot Mexican actress, big-budget, and an amazing director but nothing was able to save Kites. Kites could've been a dream crossover project for Hrithik Roshan into international cinema. Rakesh Roshan even had a Brett Ratner cut of the film for American audiences.

Blue: With an insanely big budget of 129 crores, Blue was the most expensive Bollywood film in 2015. The film saw many amazing underwater shots, extremely expensive action choreography but still, the movie was not able to do good business at the box office.

Besharam: Sometimes we just wonder why brilliant actors like Ranbir Kapoor end up doing such poor films. His superstardom did draw the audience to the theaters but, ultimately, the content has to do the talking and it was declared an absolute letdown. The 85-crore film only managed to cover 35 crores.
